Craziness on the Island
Living in Indiana most of my life where you can get from point A to point B in ten different ways, I never really thought about the consequences of buying a house on an island when Thomas and I moved to South Carolina. An island that has two bridges - therefore two ways on and two ways off the island. No back roads to take, no alternate routes. One of those bridges is now broken- hit by a crane on a passing barge. Now there is ONE way on and off the island. And all the other islands that are connect to it. This equals a TWO HOUR drive home for Thomas and all of my friends who work on the Air Station. It's now 8:00 pm and my husband is still not home. Today he decided to leave a little later than 5:00 pm hoping it would relieve some of the wait. The engineers say it's going to take THREE MONTHS to repair the bridge. That's just CRAZY! It's going to take me so long to get to my doctor appointments now....to go anywhere. No more unnecessary trips to Y'all Mart or to the scrapbooking store for fun. I'm not even sure I want to go to the beach- which is in the opposite direction of town and the traffic- but getting back would be he**! It's kind of a blessing not to be working at the moment. But I feel stuck here. Tomorrow morning from 5:30 to 7 am no one can get on the island as they're going to open up the bridge to two lanes going off. Which will ease the traffic some but they need to do that during the even rush hour too. I just feel so horrible for everyone who has to endure this inconvenience- which really it is. It could be worse- as Thomas said, our houses could be under water or destroyed.....read all about the craziness here.

Oh my, that is a mess, you never think of something like that happening, a hurricane yes, but not a broken bridge. Like you guys need to learn any more patience :) Jan
Jan, I need to borrow Dad's boat for about 3 months. Is that going to be a problem?
That sux honey I hope things go a lot quicker than 3 months.
Thinking of you mate!!!
Tom, Your Dad says you can borrow the oars too! Jan
What a mess! That stinks that Tom has to deal with that to and from work - not fun at all. Good thing you stocked up on buttons recently though :)
