I'm Home!

I'm finally home! I got home late Friday afternoon after a five day stay in the hospital. The infection was a lot worse than initially thought. As soon as Dr. Chahin looked at it, he knew it needed to be lanced opened and drained. I was willing to do whatever it took to make the pain go away. I didn't think I would be there for five days though. Which kind of stunk since my family came into town on Thursday night. But they were totally understanding and supportive- cause they're the best. :)

Monday I arrived at the hospital around 3:00 pm and had a CT Scan done so Dr. Sisco could see exactly how big the abscess was to prepare for surgery which took place Tuesday morning. They also started me on antibiotic and had a blood transfusion that night.

(WARNING- this part is somewhat disgusting.) When I woke up Tuesday morning to change into my gown, the abscess had turned yellow and green and was really soft. There was a little puss already coming out. The surgery went well. They put me totally under which was so great! I didn't have any problems waking up or anything. Dr. Sisco called Thomas while I was in the recovery room, who was waiting in my room, to let him know everything went well. He also told him the abscess was a lot bigger than what the CT Scan had showed and wondered if I was walking okay (which I was). I guess the infection almost reached my hip bone which would have been incredibly bad. He also said once he lanced it open, the infection just kept coming out- approximately 30 cc which is three big syringes. GROSS!!! He put a drain tub in it that Thomas has to put three syringes full of saline through which rinses out the cavity everyday. The pain has totally reduced and really isn't that sore. It just grosses me out and I can't shower!

The visit with the family was so great. Too short of course. Being around them just makes everything so much better. Today Thomas and I are relaxing with Penny and Colin- family is the best.
