Update

It's been along week.....I went back to my doc last Wednesday for my follow up. My heart rate was 140 bmp- way too high- which is a sign of dehydration so the doc sent me down to the ER for 2 bags of fluids. They also took more blood to test again for anemia which came back positive- I think the number this time was 8.1, very low. The doc said there were 3 reasons why my blood count was decreasing- either I had mono, I was bleeding internally or something was attacking my blood and then pretty much sent me home with 5 different prescriptions and made an appointment for the following Tuesday. Tom & I thought this was a little weird since I was still losing blood but we trusted she knew what she was talking about. On Sunday I started getting really really dizzy. I decided I needed to shower seeing how it had been 2 days since the last one. I barely got the shampoo out of my hair before I started seeing white dots and had to sit down. Monday was even worse. Tom came home for lunch around 1:00pm and we decided I needed to go back to the ER. After an hour and a half wait, I went up to the lab and had blood taken again that my doc had ordered for my appointment the next day. Tom had also gotten an appointment later that day with my doc so we decided to go home and not wait to get into the ER. We were home for about an hour and the nurse called after reviewing my bloodwork and said I needed to go back to the ER now. She said she couldn't really say much else. How scary! So, back to the ER we went. As soon as I got in there and the ER doc saw my bloodwork results, he knew I needed a blood transfusion. I had needed blood since the last time I saw my regular doc- and she sent me home for a week! I had to stay the night in the hospital- for the first time in my life- and had 2 blood transfusions. One that night and then one again at 4 in the morning. Needless to say, I didn't get any sleep. And the thermostat was broken in my room so it was blowing hot air. I had to keep the door open to avoid sweating to death and the nurses were loud. I finally was released Tuesday afternoon and am feeling so much better with the new blood. I had an appointment with the hematologist that day too. And also a CT scan done on Wednesday. I won't know any results until next Wednesday.

I'm enjoying feeling better. I think I might even get to go out on the boat this weekend! The first time in so long! I'm still really tired and sometimes achy but nothing compared to how I was feeling.

Also, a big THANK YOU to Jan, Tom's stepmom, who has come down the last 2 weeks for a few days to cook, clean, do laundry......She is a God-Sent. Tom & I appreciate all her help so much. I don't think Tom could have made it without her help. Her love and support is such a blessing.

Please keep me in your prayers. Hopefully soon we will have some answers and can start any treatment that needs to happen.

It's wonderful to hear you're feeling a little better. I was telling Penelope yesterday that I have a strange feeling your improvement will continue.

Reading over this, I was remembering the last time I gave blood, and hoping that somehow my donation was the one that ended up helping you out. Not likely.

Sounds like Jan (and Tom) are the real life savers!

Hey! I'm O-, although I haven't given blood in awhile now. I really should get back in that habit.
