Tonight Sarah and I made a trip to Lowes. It's funny how spending a Friday night there is much more enjoyable these days than going out. It reminds me of last Christmas when I told my family all I wanted was Lowes gift certificates- they thought I was joking. What's wrong with a 23 year old woman wanting Lowes gift certificates? Sarah had to pick out a shade of yellow for her bathroom which she's painting tomorrow without her husband's knowledge (he's in Japan with Thomas). He said she should hire someone to do it- yeah right- like she can't handle a little painting....she's been holding down the place for the past 4 1/2 months without him! :)
Sarah and I both learned much more in this Lowes trip than any other- we had the privilege to meet Carl, the ever-so-knowledgeable paint guy. He frowned upon Sarah's first choice of yellow. Said it was way too bright and that yellow and pink are the two most difficult colors to get the correct shade. He told us all about different paint schemes and decreasing the shade on the walls by 50% or 75% to put on the ceiling......what rollers to get, how to hold the brush when you're doing the trim......"now when you're doing the top of the trim, stand behind it and swoop up from the bottom," as he demonstrated on the edge of the shelf.....made us feel the bristles of a cheap brush and then the ones of a "better" brush.....I don't even think I've learned that much from Tom about painting! He suggested Sarah sleep on her selection of yellow and return in the morning to make the purchase. He is also going to hook me up with my orange for the kitchen that normally would cost $28 a gallon because it's Waverly Signature Collection but will mix it with American Tradition to save me 10 bucks! This is only done "when the boss isn't around." Carl is the man. Sarah and I have a date with him tomorrow morning at 7:30 am at the Lowes' paint counter.

Don't know about dates and all that... but I appreciate him teaching you stuff. I am sorry I don't really tell you what's going on when I'm-a-fixin on things...
