My Life
I'm having issues deciding what I want to do with my life. I went to college for 2 1/2 years for elementary education and then left school because I wasn't sure I wanted to be a teacher. I then took another semester for nursing and didn't do so good in one of the classes (biology- the base for nursing) and got discouraged. So I haven't taken anymore classes since. I'm meeting with an advisor next week in the Early Childhood Education Department here to see what classes I would need to take to finish my education degree. But is that really what I want to do? Should I just finish that degree since I'm half way done with it? Tom says doing something is better than doing nothing. But I'm doing something now- working. And not in a job I want to do forever but I am doing something. How do I want to spend my day everyday? I need to spend real equality time with myself exploring this idea. I know I want to have a family- 4 kiddes- at least 3 so having a job that is family oriented and flexible would be ideal. I've thought about becoming a realtor, opening my own children's boutique, cake decorating, floral designer, interior designer, opening a coffee or ice cream shop, working for an adoption agency, philanthropy work...........uh, I just don't know. Do it all is what some responses might be but is that really realistic? I'm not getting any younger. Now is the time. Why is this so hard?

I am in the same boat. I finally decided to pick something and stick with it. I choose Tourism, Convention, & Event Management. There is soooo much that you could do with that degree.
Also, is there a career counsler that you could talk to or some tests/personality profiles you could take to tell you what you would be good at doing/being?
I know you're doing 'something,' but it isn't what you're heart's telling you to do. Even if you don't know what kind of degree to get, if your heart says, 'get one', then you'd better just comply with the instruction. You can figure out what to do with it later. I love you. And I am here for you.
I say just pick a degree and go with it. Early Childhood Education is at least as good a general preparation for work as Philosophy, which is what I got. And probably much better preparation for parenthood as well.
2nd bit of advice: if the advisor says, "Well, Mrs. Alison, we have Program A, wherein you attend classes four days a week for a eighteen months, and Program B, with classes one night a month until you're eighty..." go with A. Commit to it, knock it out and graduate ASAP.
Thanks guys for the words of wisdom. :)
